New York Stock Exchange is a part of NYSE Euronext, the world largest transatlantic stock exchange. NYSE is probably the most famous exchange, known all over the world by people very very far from the financial markets, stocks or exchanges.
NYSE main building is located in New York City, in the southern part of Manhattan borough, on Wall street, right in the heart of the Financial District.
In fact, there are several interconnected buildings in the NYSE complex, taking an entire block (with a small exclusion of 20 Broad street building where NYSE has many floors, but does not own the entire building and so shares it with some other companies) between Wall Street to the North, New Street on the West, Broad street on the East and Exchange place on the South.
The main administration and management building is located on the northern side of the block, at 11 Wall street.
This is a 23 store building with board rooms, conference rooms, press galleries, restaurant, cafeteria and many other office floors.
The trading floor is located in a different part of the complex, at 10-12 Broad street and this is the building that everyone associates with the Exchange.

The area around NYSE is not just the busiest part of the city, but also a major tourist attraction so there are literally thousands of people on the street and square in front of the Exchange filled by tourists.

General public is not admitted to the Exchange and the territory around it is closed with the fence and patrolled by NYSE security and New York police, including heavy armored units. Vehicles are allowed into the neighboring areas only after a severe security procedure.
All streets around the block are closed to traffic and vehicles are allowed in via the buffer check zones. Each such a zone has two gates in such a way that the street is always closed, even when letting a car in: the first gate opens and the car moves into the inspection zone. Then the first gate closes. After the car is inspected by the guard with a specially trained dog, another door opens letting the car through.
There are different defence systems closing the roads - huge metal columns that can retract under the surface of the road:
Others look like a part of the road raised:
And those that are used to let cars through are essentially just moving pieces of roads, able to stop a tank:
Dogs are used to detect explosives:
And are transported in special k9 cars:
There used to be an entrance to the subway next to the Exchange, but it was closed to secure the perimeter.
